Hanks among celebs at ScreenSingapore closing

The loudest screams were reserved for Hollywood A-lister Tom Hanks, who tried to sign as many autographs as he could during his 20-minute walk up the red carpet.

TUDENT Annabelle Kwok, 18, showed up early at Shaw House on Saturday hoping to catch a glimpse of her childhood idol Tom Hanks.

The Hollywood star was in town for the premiere of his latest film, Larry Crowne, about a middle-aged man who reinvents himself by returning to college after being fired.

The red-carpet gala marked the close of the week-long ScreenSingapore, a media industry event with screenings, conferences and a trade marketplace.

Ms Kwok waited at the building's McCafe outlet from 2.30pm, and snagged a prime spot at 4.30pm beside the red carpet that stretched in front of Shaw House.

When she finally saw Hanks at 8.30pm, she not only got his autograph, but also shook his hand and snapped a picture with the star's close working partner, producer Gary Goetzman.

The excited fan said: 'I had to run after Tom Hanks because he was walking quite quickly, and I caught him just before he went up the escalator. 'I am very happy that I've managed to cross one thing off my bucket list, and even said 'hi' to his youngest son, Truman.'
