The Nerdist : Tom Hanks interview

October 14, 2012 - 0 comment

In a creative ploy to get Tom Hanks to appear on the Nerdist Podcast, founder and host Chris Hardwick sent him a vintage typewriter and an invitation letter. Here is the original letter sent by The Nerdist team :

Please accept this typewriter–o–gram as a formal invitation to be a a guest on my wildly-popular-with-the-kids Nerdist Podcast. It is a super relaxed, fun chat that will probably cover comedy, NASA, and whatever else you want to talk about — a new WEBSERIES, perhaps?? We are nice guys who are easy to get along with and have never murdered anyone. Other guests have included folks like your son Colin, Tina Fey, Conan, Jimmy Fallon, Bryan Cranston, John Lithgow, Willem Dafoe, JJ Abrams, Neil Patrick Harris, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Joel McHale, Jon Hamm, and THE MUPPETS. It would be an absolute dream come true to add you to this list. Please accept this 1934 Smith Corona as a gift for even considering this request. It should only VERY SLIGHTLY affect your decision.

Then Tom Hanks came up with a hilarious response, complete with old school typos. Click on the image below to see the full letter.

It worked. Tom Hanks came in to chat with Hardwick and co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray about typewriter, show business, space, "The Brady Bunch," Tom Selleck, sports, and now-famous actors to appear in "Band of Brothers."

You can listen to and download the podcast in our audio section. The interview starts at 3'55 and lasts for more than an hour an half. Beware explicit language is used. Enjoy!

Tom Hanks attended Aston Villa vs Portland Timbers

July 28, 2012 - 0 comment

On July 24, Tom Hanks went to Portland, Oregon to attend the Portland Timbers-Aston Villa soccer game.
Indeed, if you did not know, Tom Hanks has been an Aston Villa (and soccer) fan for over a decade, but had never seen his favorite team play in person. In 2008, Tom Hanks even wore an Aston Villa scarf at the London premiere of Charlie Wilson War.

On Tuesday night, Tom Hanks he mixed and mingled with players, coaches and famous fans on the turf at Jeld-Wen Field before the game. He also performed the ceremonial coin flip.
We have added some photos to the gallery.

You can also watch three videos, including interviews and images from Tom Hanks in the locker room chatting with the players. You can click on each thumbnail to access the respective video.
The quality isn't very good for the AVTV interview, our apologies. But thank you to Avfcedl2k11 who posted it on Youtube.

You can also read an article in which Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert explains what it was like to meet with the actor.
