Standing Up For Heroes : Tom Hanks mentors Veteran Gabriel Posey

December 15, 2012 - 1 comment

Tom Hanks's support towards the military and the veterans is well known. Besides his support of the Welcome Back Veterans Campaign, whose goal is to transform the lives of the returning veterans by changing the way people think and talk about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Tom Hanks recently took part in ABC News' Standing Up For Heroes program. It is partnered with American Corporate Partners (ACP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting veterans in their transition from the armed services to the civilian workforce.

Army Staff Sgt. Gabriel Posey, who is returning from Afghanistan, applied to be part of a mentorship program as he aspires to become a writer for television and film. He was paired with Tom Hanks who will be his mentor in his pursuit of a career in the entertainment industry. Tom Hanks met with military sergeant and aspiring screenwriter Gabriel Posey to share his advice about the entertainment industry. He also sat down with ABC News' Bob Woodruff to share his thoughts on his movies and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We have added the five videos from ABC News' Standing Up For Heroes featuring Tom Hanks, including two 5-minute interviews with Bob Woodruff.

The Nerdist : Tom Hanks interview

October 14, 2012 - 0 comment

In a creative ploy to get Tom Hanks to appear on the Nerdist Podcast, founder and host Chris Hardwick sent him a vintage typewriter and an invitation letter. Here is the original letter sent by The Nerdist team :

Please accept this typewriter–o–gram as a formal invitation to be a a guest on my wildly-popular-with-the-kids Nerdist Podcast. It is a super relaxed, fun chat that will probably cover comedy, NASA, and whatever else you want to talk about — a new WEBSERIES, perhaps?? We are nice guys who are easy to get along with and have never murdered anyone. Other guests have included folks like your son Colin, Tina Fey, Conan, Jimmy Fallon, Bryan Cranston, John Lithgow, Willem Dafoe, JJ Abrams, Neil Patrick Harris, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Joel McHale, Jon Hamm, and THE MUPPETS. It would be an absolute dream come true to add you to this list. Please accept this 1934 Smith Corona as a gift for even considering this request. It should only VERY SLIGHTLY affect your decision.

Then Tom Hanks came up with a hilarious response, complete with old school typos. Click on the image below to see the full letter.

It worked. Tom Hanks came in to chat with Hardwick and co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray about typewriter, show business, space, "The Brady Bunch," Tom Selleck, sports, and now-famous actors to appear in "Band of Brothers."

You can listen to and download the podcast in our audio section. The interview starts at 3'55 and lasts for more than an hour an half. Beware explicit language is used. Enjoy!
