It has been officially confirmed that Tom Hanks has accepted the invitation to serve as this year's speaker at the Class Day for Yale University in May. In fact, Yale spokesman, Tom Conroy, confirmed that the students had requested him to be this year’s speaker. The ceremony will take place on May 22.
The Class Day speech is a Yale tradition. It is the major speech to outgoing seniors, typically given the day before the commencement ceremony.

Senior Class Secretary Cathy Lew said :

“Tom Hanks is someone we thought would be a great choice not only for the class of 2011 but also people in the audience, administration and faculty. We also appreciated the fact that he’s shown his broad range in many different aspects of the entertainment industry.”

Previous speakers include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, novelist Christopher Buckley, Indian-American journalist and author Fareed Zakaria, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and former President Bill Clinton, who served as last year’s speaker.

Tom Hanks had already spoken at the Commencement Ceremony of Vassar College on May 22, 2005. His speech was entitled "The Power of Four" and you can now listen to it as we've added it to the audio clips.
