Simply Shakespeare 2011

April 14, 2011

Every spring, some of today’s finest actors donate their time to participate in a staged reading of a Shakespearean comedy. Co-chaired by Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, this annual tradition raises awareness and funds in support of The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles.

This year, cast members will include Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson, Christine Applegate, Kenneth Branagh, Faith Hill & Tim McGraw, Eric Idle, Arte Johnson, Eugene Levy, William Shatner, Martin Short and Tracey Ullman.

They will perform a staged reading of Shakespeare's play The Merry Wives of Windsor on May 9th at 8:00 PM that will be directed by Ben Donenberg. The location is still to be determined.
Tickets to the general public go on sale April 15, for the performance only and are priced at $95 and $175. Tickets can be purchased by visiting UCLAlive or Ticketmaster or calling (800) 745-3000.

Like every year, an eBay auction for a role alongside the cast commences on April 21 and concludes on May 1. The winner will join the cast on stage with a line of dialogue, participate in limited rehearsal, have billing in the program, gain admission to the VIP post-show party and take a group photo with the cast. Visit the SCLA auction site to bid.
All proceeds from the event and the eBay auction support The SCLA and "its arts based youth employment programs for inner-city youth, arts education in local schools, and professional union-contracted productions that are accessible to all."
