Mark Romanek to direct The Lost Symbol ?

October 20, 2011

The news comes from the website Deadline : negotiations should begin soon between Columbia Pictures and Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) who is very likely to direct the third adaptation of Robert Langdon's adventures based on Dan Brown's novels.
Nothing is decided yet, but it seems Mark Romanek is their top choice for the job so far.

Ron Howard, who directed The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, had decided not to direct the movie preferring to produce along with Brian Grazer, his partner at Imagine Entertainment.

Tom Hanks is expected to reprise his role as Robert Langdon but has not committed to it yet. However, he told MTV in October 2009 that he would be ready to take back the role of the famous symbologist if the book was adapted to the big screen.
Dan Brown was hired to write a second draft of The Lost Symbol screenplay after Oscar-nominated screenwriter Steven Knight had provided the first.

It's interesting to note that Romanek was also attached to the movie A Cold Case which was supposed to star Tom Hanks. The movie never got into any real development and the project was dropped a few years ago.
