Maersk Alabama : details on the production

November 12, 2011

We have a little more details on the production of Maersk Alabama which will star Tom Hanks as Captain Richard Phillips, directed by Paul Greengrass and produced by the team behind The Social Network.

Indeed, we know that most of the film will be shot in New Orleans, Louisiana. Production on the film will begin February 13, 2012 and continue through May, according to state film officials.

The production will mark Tom Hanks's first time shooting a major feature film in New Orleans, although he's no stranger to town since he's been supporting the National World War II Museum for which he executive-produced and narrated the 4-D film Beyond All Boundaries in 2009.

The film will be based on the book written by Richard Phillips, A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, in which he tells his story of the hijacking of his cargo ship by Somali pirates and his captivity aboard the ship where he stayed three days alone with them before being saved by Navy SEALS.
