Captain Phillips : Catherine Keener joins the cast

February 03, 2012

A few days ago, we told you that the production of Captain Phillips would move to Morocco, and maybe Malta, due to logistical issues.
We've just learned that actress Catherine Keener is joining the cast of Captain Phillips. She will play Andrea Phillips, the wife of Tom Hanks's character, "who remained strong throughout the hostage ordeal, never losing faith in her husband."

Tom Hanks and Catherine Keener are the only actors to have been officially attached to the project yet. The movie will be directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Trilogy, United 93) and the script, based on Captain Phillips's memoir is written by Billy Ray (Hart's War, Flightplan, State of Play). The team behind The Social Network is producing, that is to say Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey.

In 2009, Catherine Keener starred in Where the Wild Things Are which was produced by Tom Hanks. They will co-star in this new project, which tells tge true story of Captain Richard Phillips, the leader of the cargo ship Maersk Alabama, who gave himself up as a hostage to Somali pirates to keep his crew from having to leave the ship with them. After three days alone with the armed pirates in a small lifeboat, Phillips was saved by Navy SEALS who staged a raid that left three captors dead and another in custody. The movie is set to be released on March 22, 2013.
