"Parkland" : Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's new project

August 18, 2012

For years there had been a rumor saying that Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman wanted to adapt Vincent Bugliosi's Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy. They are now officially producing a JFK project with their production company, Playtone.

They will produce Parkland, an ensemble film about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It will chronicle the events leading up to JFK's assassination and Abraham Zapruder's famous documentation of the event, as well as explore the impact the assassination had on a wide range of characters in and around Dallas on that fateful day, including an FBI agent, a young doctor, a reporter, several Secret Service agents, Kennedy's staff, Lee Harvey Oswald's older brother, Jackie Kennedy and Zapruder.

The title refers to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where Kennedy was rushed on November 22, 1963 and later pronounced dead. Two days later, his assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald died at Parkland. Several years later, Oswald's killer, Jack Ruby, also died there.

Peter Landesman is both writing and directing the movie.
