Hanks to write, direct and star in "Larry Crowne"

January 12, 2010

Big news today ! According to DeadlineHollywood, Tom Hanks is back behind the camera to direct a movie off his own script. This would be Tom Hanks's second feature film as a director (and screenplay writer) after That Thing You Do! back in 1996. He also wrote and directed episodes of Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon. Note that around 2001, Tom Hanks had abandoned directing.

Even better, Tom Hanks will play the title character, “a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life”, and will team-up with Julia Roberts, with whom he previously worked on Charlie Wilson's War.

Larry Crowne
, a comedy (yes !), should begin production in April and will be produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's company, Playtone.

Tom Hanks has eventually started tweeting ! He confirmed the information concerning Larry Crowne with his second tweet :

Hey. My 2nd tweet! @NIKKIFINKE is right - http://bit.ly/4sx12Z. LARRY CROWNE w/ J Roberts and me, shooting 2010. More to come.

About Toy Story 3 now, the movie will be released in the United Kingdom on July 23 according to Lee Unkrich. He posted new photos of the recording sessions with Tom Hanks; you can see them in the gallery. By the way, did you know that the real Woody toys based on the movie are voiced by Tom Hanks's brother, Jim ? Again, the info comes from Lee Unkrich.

Finally, HBO revealed another teaser for the miniseries The Pacific. Only two more months to wait...
