Tom Hanks comes back behind the camera for his second feature film, called Larry Crowne and based on his own script.
Tom Hanks will play the title character, “a man forced to reinvent himself and find a new career as he navigates the second act of his life”, and will team-up with Julia Roberts, with whom he previously worked on Charlie Wilson's War.
Production has already started according to Tom Hanks himself (via his Twitter) and shooting should begin in April. The movie will be produced by his own production company, Playtone, as well as Vendome Picture and Universal Pictures has bought the domestic distribution rights.
After The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, Columbia Pictures is ready to adapt the third Robert Langdon adventure, The Lost Symbol. Tom Hanks has not yet signed on for it but he told MTV at the premiere of Where the Wild Things Are, that he was ready to take back the role of Robert Langdon if it were to be adapted to the screen.
Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) has been hired to adapt the novel into a screenplay but we don't know if Ron Howard will be back to direct it but he signed on, with Brian Grazer, as producer.
Columbia Pictures hopes for a 2012 release, probably in May. The story takes place in Washington, D.C and focuses on Freemason conspiracy.
Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey will co-produce, through their respective production companies, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
Universal Pictures has hired William Broyles Jr. (Apollo 13, The Polar Express and Cast Away) to adapt the novel written by David Wroblewski.
It's also said that Tom Hanks would like to use the performance-capture, the same way James Cameron did for Avatar and that he would play one of the characters... one of the three dogs. No director has been hired yet.
