Tom Hanks is one of the most recognizable actors of our modern time, who is known to adapt to every genre of the movie and every type of character. In 2019, we are about to see the two announced movies featuring this brilliant superstar, which are currently being filmed: You Are My Friend and Greyhound. For the directors of these movies, Tom Hanks, as an “every character man” was the one and only choice for the leading actor.

1. You Are My Friend

In the last couple of years, Tom Hanks starred in many biopics, portraying the extraordinary historical figures. He was equally good in The Post, Sully, Saving Mr. Banks, and in Captain Phillips. In 2019, he will do it again and this time he will portray the beloved TV personality, Mister Rogers. In the role of a popular Fred Rogers, who hosted Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from 1968 to 2001, Hanks will get a chance to work with The Diary of a Teenage Girl director, Marielle Heller.
The plot of the movie is based on a true story of friendship between journalist Tom Junod and Fred Rogers. This movie carries a powerful message about the importance of kindness and personal change.

2. Greyhound

After Saving Private Ryan, this movie will be yet another war drama, directed by Aaron Schneider,  where Hanks will get another chance to amaze the audience with his outstanding performance. Moreover, he will also serve as a writer and a producer.
This time, he is portraying Captain Ernest Krause, the character based on C.S. Forester’s novel “The Good Shepherd”. The plot is set in the early days of World War II and it tells the story of an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, commanded by Hanks’ character. which crosses North Atlantic, while being chased by wolf packs and Nazis. Ernest Krause is in a command of a U.S. Navy destroyer for the first time, and the movie emphasizes his fight with self-doubts and personal demons.
