The idea of Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D is to give moviegoers the illusion that they are actually on the moon. The giant Imax screen and the current version of 3-D glasses certainly combine to create the illusion that images have jumped off the screen and are hovering in the air about two rows of seats ahead. With Tom Hanks as narrator and the movie-star voices of Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, Paul Newman and John Travolta, among others, Magnificent Desolation shares former astronauts' thoughts about their experiences going to the moon as it re-creates visits to the lunar surface. However, some voices belong to the real astronauts, including Neil Armstrong, Alan Shepard, Buzz Aldrin and Charles Duke.
