I've never once posted on a website. Never had cause to, but on hearing the NEWS of Dick Winters passing I'd like to personally thank you for bringing us the story of Dick Winters and Easy Company. My father served in the US Army for 27 years and I don't think I truly understood what that meant until I saw Band of Brothers. These men are true American Heroes and I will pass their story on to my children and grandchildren. Their story will not be forgotten. Thanks Tom... you did good.

It should be no great secret what ails our country today. The comfortable times we live in just do not produce enough men like Mr. Winters. His combination of toughness, intelligence, dignity and humility were and are quite rare. We should never forget all that he and the Greatest Generation sacrificed in the name of freedom. Thanks to Mr. Hanks for continuing to tell their stories.

After watching Band of Brothers, my family visited twice Normandy and Bastogne, and since them, on D-Day my pupils in Spain watch the movie and learn what our world owes to them.
How unique and superior some people are, as Mr. Winters was!

After watching the superb mini series Band of Brothers for the umpteenth time I realised just how long had passed since I first watched it. I started to look up what the surviving members had been doing and was shocked to see the passing of Major Winters. Thankfully he lived a long and wonderful life which he, and the rest of Easy Company had well deserved, and I thank them from all my heart for helping to clear the world of an evil empire-building lunatic. I recently spent a week in Normandy and it was a deeply moving experience visiting the cemetaries to see just how many wasted lives (on both sides) there were.
If only 10% of the population today had Major Winters courage, honesty and pride then war would be a thing of the past. My heart fills with pride and joy that there were men like them around to stop the evil spreading and sadness that the world has lost another 'hero'. My thoughts are with his family. Major Winters and E Company will never be forgotten
