Cloud Atlas, The Lost Symbol, Saving Mr Banks : what's new ?
March 06, 2012
As always, Tom Hanks has a dozen projects in development at the same time… We learn a bit more about them every day. So here are new information about three of them : Cloud Atlas, The Lost Symbol and Saving Mr Banks.
» David Guyasi about Cloud Atlas and working with Tom Hanks
The next movie starring Tom Hanks to be released in theaters is Coud Atlas, adapted by the The Wachowskis (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer from David Mitchel's book. The movie will be released in October 2012 and will also star Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Jim Sturgess, Ben Whishaw, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Bae Doona, Jim Broadbent and many others. Some information given by the actors tend to reveal that the movie will probably be very different from anything we've seen so far… Hugo Weaving explained that most actors will play six characters, one in each story that take place in six different time periods : the 19th century, 1920s, 1973, 2012, 2125, 2345. Also, one of Hugh Grant's character is a cannibal… How about Tom Hanks in all of this ?
In an interview to DIY, David Gyasi, who also star in Cloud Atlas, gave us a small but very interesting information about one of Tom Hanks's characters in the movie :
"I start as a good character, but Tom Hanks has the biggest journey, as he starts out as an evil character. I actually fight with his character."
Does this mean people will stop asking the question : Has tom hanks ever played a bad guy ? Anyway, he also talked about what it is like to work with Tom Hanks. You can read it in our section Quotes from others.
» Game Change writer Danny Strong hired to adapt The Lost Symbol
Screenwriter Danny Strong who adapted Game Change, the book written by political journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin about John McCain and Sarah Palin's campaign in 2008, has just been hired by Sony Pictures to overhaul the script of The Lost Symbol. The first two adaptations were made by its author Dan Brown and screenwriter Steven Knight.
"What is it like going from politics to Dan Brown’s Lost Symbol, and writing for Tom Hanks?
I don’t know. I haven’t started yet. I literally just got the job. It’s really cool to be part of this iconic series. This one is less religion. It’s the Freemasons."
Mark Romanek remains a possible choice for directing, while Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (who directed The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons) will serve as producers. Tom Hanks is expected to come back as Robert Langdon but no commitment has been made at this point..
