May 18, 2012

Cloud Atlas, the movie adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel directed by The Wachowskis (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), has finally been given a release date in the US !

Indeed, according to Thompson on Hollywood, Warner Bros. has picked up the North American distribution rights at Cannes for $20 million and will release the movie on December 6, 2012 in the United States, which would make it eligible for Oscar consideration… But the date can still change.

The movie will be released beforehand in some European countries : October in Germany, November 22 in Russia, November 28 in Belgium and November 29 in Netherlands.

A screening of a 4-hour version of the movie took place a few days ago in the UK and another one took place yesterday night in Pasadena, CA. So far, the reactions have been positive.
In the end, the movie will be 2 hours and 44-minute long and has been shown in Cannes for four remaining territories, including the U.K., France, Japan and Spain.

Details on the production have been kept secret. All we've seen are two concept art images and a very few photos of the filming. It has been reported that Tom Hanks took a huge pay cut for his part in the film, helping to bring the multi-period set movie to life.

Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, and Jim Sturgess star in six interconnecting stories spanning several decades… The movie looks like a real challenge, for its creators and for the audience !
